About Us

SEAFOOD SERVICES AUSTRALIA – WORKING FOR THE SEAFOOD INDUSTRY

Seafood Services Australia’s mission is to be a catalyst for sustainable development of the seafood industry. SSA is working for an Australian seafood industry that is:

  • sustainable
  • profitable
  • internationally competitive
  • socially resilient
  • engaging in responsible industry practices that enjoy community support.

SSA’s founding members are

  • The Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) — the leading Australian Government agency responsible for planning, investing in and managing fisheries R&D throughout Australia. SSA delivers, or advises on, a substantial proportion of the FRDC’s Industry Development Program and manages the FRDC-funded Seafood Industry Development Fund.
  • The Australian Seafood Industry Council (ASIC) — the seafood industry’s peak body. The Council’s advice on national seafood industry matters is essential to SSA’s capacity to develop and deliver its programs.

Other organisations with compatible objectives may also be eligible to become members.

SSA encourages and supports people, businesses and organisations in the seafood industry who want to:

  • continually improve and add value to their business,
  • continually improve their environmental performance,
  • meet consumer expectations (especially in having high levels of confidence in Australian seafood products), and
  • receive broad community support for their activities.

SSA works with the seafood industry and its stakeholders to:

  • generate new knowledge, processes and technology and facilitate their dissemination, adoption and commercialisation;
  • acquire and disseminate technical information and advice from around the world that benefits the seafood industry;
  • develop and implement management systems and standards for seafood safety, quality and the environment; and
  • identify and capitalise on opportunities to develop the seafood industry.
