Objectives:

(a)
|
Implement EMS in up to 6 seafood industry sectors in at least 3 different states;

Assess the value of EMS implementation to producers and in terms of natural resource management outcomes; and

Use the information generated by the EMS pilot to advise future development of EMS policies and programs.

The 6 case study groups comprising members from six different industries and at least three different states have signed agreements to participate in the pilot project. Full membership of the case study groups provided to the Department. Project Officer has been appointed. Details of appointment provided to the Department. The Project Officer will be responsible for working with the case study groups to implement EMS.(Completed)

Case study groups have commenced EMS implementation. Each case study group has completed a skills analysis and training needs identification. Outcomes from the skills and need analysis will be used to determine training requirements to be met during the EMS pilot. Communication Plan developed. The Communication Plan will include a timetable and mechanisms for communication of pilot project outcomes as well as a proposed timetable for visits to the case study groups by the Project Officer (or their alternate). These visits will be reported in future milestones. (Completed)

The Project level Monitoring and Evaluation Framework will be developed by consultants appointed by the Grantee. Case study documentation and proformas generated for case study groups to use to capture learnings from EMS implementation. (Completed)

Completion of a detailed project delivery plan including a process for implementing EMS across the 6 case study groups. Plan made available to AFFA. Draft facilitators kit developed and provided to the case study groups. The facilitator’s kit will include resources which may assist with the delivery of EMS to the six case study groups. Copy of the facilitator’s kit provided to the Department. Note: the facilitators will not be employed under the project but are industry members (industry champions) who will voluntarily work with the case study groups. The annual review forum completed. The review will involve all case study groups, the Technical Review Panel and other stakeholders. During the annual review forum, the participants will analyse and evaluate the outcomes from the pilot project to date. (Completed)

A draft of the Final report should be submitted to the Department in electronic form no less than one month prior to the deadline for delivery of the Final Report.

The Final report will also contain recommendations to guide the development of policy, program and regulatory frameworks relating to:
Future of EMS in the seafood industry;
sustainable development of the industry generally;
future development of certification systems that integrate environmental regulatory requirements and business goals.
